Home GOP threatens to hold Holder in contempt above Fast and Furious - chicagotribune.com

House Republicans investigating the Fast and Furious operation threatened Thursday to seek out a contempt of Congress citation against Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr., saying his Office of Justice has refused to change over important files in the Office of Booze Tobacco and Firearms gun-monitoring investigation and that the Obama administration is hoping to cover its involvement in the software that permitted hundreds of U.S. weapons to drop into the arms of Mexican drug cartels.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), chairman of the Residence Oversight Committee, informed Holder in a Capitol Hill hearing that the Justice Division has offered only six,400 pages of paperwork out of some Chinese Wholesale Jerseys 93,000 that they still want -- all a indicator to him and his GOP colleagues that Holder and best Justice officials in Washington are attempting to suppress evidence that they realized about the gun-walking tactics and might have authorized Quickly and Furious.

All these people must be ashamed that they didn&rsquot do as excellent a job as they must have, Issa explained, strongly implying that Justice officers ended up deeply concerned in overseeing Rapidly and Furious that permitted illegal gun purchases in Arizona in the hope of tracking the weapons to cartel leaders. As a substitute, some 1,700 guns ended up misplaced.

But Holder, testifying for the sixth time about Quickly and Furious, insisted that his office is hoping to cooperate with the congressional investigation. He explained they have responded to 3 dozen letters from members of Congress and have facilitated several witness interviews. NHL Jerseys Wholesale He added, this has been a important endeavor for division employees Chinese Wholesale Jerseys and our efforts in this regard continue to be ongoing.

The Republican committee members indicated they are leaning towards a contempt citation dependent on beliefs that the Justice Office had significantly greater information of, and involvement in, Quickly and Furious than it has formerly acknowledged. They explained committee interviews, files and emails present that in a single occasion, then-ATF Acting Director Kenneth Melson instructed Assistant Atty. Gen. Lanny Breuer that the ATF wanted to launch a diverse method for stopping U.S. guns from acquiring into Mexico, and that Breuer considered it a wonderful thought.

But now, the Republicans said in a new report into Rapidly and Furious, the ATF blames Main Justice for encouraging Rapidly and Furious (and) the Justice Office blames ATF and the Arizona U.S. Attorney's Business office for the use of misguided strategies.
